The Armenian PR Association strongly condemns the inhumane treatment, illegal detentions, and unfair trials carried out by Azerbaijani authorities against Ruben Vardanyan, the leadership of Artsakh, and the Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) from the 44-day war. These actions constitute not only blatant violations of fundamental human rights but also serve as a continuation of Azerbaijan’s state-sponsored policy of Armenophobia, aimed at instilling fear and suppressing Armenians both within and beyond Artsakh.
Since the 44-day war, dozens of Armenians—including state officials, military personnel, and public figures—have been unlawfully imprisoned in Azerbaijan. They have been subjected to torture, inhumane treatment, and psychological pressure, while facing fabricated charges in politically motivated show trials. These brutal practices stand in direct violation of the Geneva Conventions, the European Convention on Human Rights, and all fundamental norms of international law.
The Armenian government must take immediate and decisive diplomatic, legal, and political measures to protect its citizens and secure their prompt release. Any passivity or ineffective response from Armenia’s state institutions is unacceptable and cannot be justified.
At the same time, the international community and human rights organizations must break their silence and take concrete action to stop Azerbaijan’s unlawful detentions, torture, and sham trials. This urgent matter must be addressed at the United Nations (UN), the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and all relevant international platforms. Targeted sanctions and legal mechanisms must be enforced to hold Azerbaijan accountable for its war crimes.
We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Ruben Vardanyan, Artsakh’s leadership, and all Armenian POWs. Human rights, justice, and international law must not become victims of political manipulation and ethnic hatred.
